In 1 Corinthians 15:17-19, St. Paul writes: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
None of us really knows how many days or weeks or months or years we have left. And for the most part, we don’t like to think about the uncertainty of our lifespan. But when we do, one response is to adopt the mindset that… “Life is short, so live every day to the fullest.”
One of the lessons that we learn during the season of Easter is how we can do exactly that. How we can live each day to the fullest. How each day can matter. But as Easter people, we receive our understanding of what it means to live a full and meaningful life by seeing life through the lens of Jesus’ cross and empty tomb.
The central claim of the Christian faith is that “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.” This message of hope gives our lives new perspective and meaning. Because Jesus is risen from the dead; because He has conquered sin and death… we too will one day rise again and live forever. As Easter people we know that life on earth is short and that each day is precious, and because Jesus is risen from the dead we too will rise!
Life is short and life is forever, so START LIVING!
